Golam Rahman

Former Secretary and Chairman of Anti Corruption Commission Mr.Golam Rahman. His professional life started as Lecturer of Comilla Victoria College in the year 1968. In the year 1969 he joined as Lecturer at Economics Department of Dhaka University. Here also he did not continue for long. Joined Pakistan Military Accounts Service. In post independent Bangladesh in 71, he started working in the same department. Later joined as Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Commerce. As Director of President’s Secretariat he performed responsibilities for long. In the year 1989, by taking responsibilities as Commercial Counselor of Bangladesh in USA, imprinted the mark of successful representation of Bangladesh in outside world. In the year 1993 Mr. Golam Rahman performed responsibilities also as Minister in Bangladesh Embassy, Washington. In the year 1994 he returned to the position of Joint Secretary of Ministry of Commerce and upto 1997 he performed responsibilities as Additional Secretary of the same Ministry. During this time he also performed responsibilities as Chief Controller of Insurance under the Ministry of Commerce successfully. In the year 1998 he took the responsibilities of Banking section of Ministry of Finance. In 99 he worked as Secretary of Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development ad Co-operatives. In January 2000 returned to Ministry of Commerce as Secretary. In January 2001 got responsibilities as Secretary of Prime Minister’s Office and in the same year he was transferred as Secretary of Ministry of Shipping. After having marks of successful performance in Public Administration, this skilled Public Administration Executive went on retirement in the year 2003.He was nominated as Chairman of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission through a comprehensive competitive examination but for long was hanged in unapproved state. When the former caretaker government came into power, again he was called upon and responsibility was conferred upon him with approval. Though Mr. Golam Rahman came face to face with different adversities, his upright mentality has served as amulet at last. For that reason, keeping his position settled in terms of principle, he took into consideration everything. No unjust pressure or persuasion let him diverge from his just thoughts. Mr. Golam Rahman was born in Comilla district. Father Golam Sarwar and mother   Zahida Khatun are both deceased. They are four brothers in the family of their parents. Wife of Golam Rahman, Tahmina Rahman is a professor of Economics Department of Holy Cross College. Mr. Golam Rahman is the proud father of two well educated professional children, both daughters.

H.M.Hakim Ali
