Fazle Hassan Abed the father of BRAC and organizer of Poverty eradication and self employment is a savior to poverty stricken helpless people of the country. A successful offspring of the country brightening up the face of the country to 150 Million Bangalese and also a name of fighting modern social reformer in world assembly. He is one of such rare personalities of the country by whose touch of work the villages are changing everyday with collective developments accomplished. He established BRAC- Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee in aid of the poverty stricken frustrated people by sacrificing his own comfortable living in order to let the people understand about the sense of true taste of independence. Infused with dream, the small plantlet, which he set in on those days, has grown up into a big tree today in realism. Within the space of three ages, BRAC is today recognized as the worlds biggest national NGO on the rise, as outcome of his own initiatives and straight efforts. In the mean time activities of BRAC are stretched out over to 50,000 villages of Bangladesh. In the mean time BRAC’s extent of activities are extended over to 50,000 villages of the country. Due to the same in the whole country, 3 million people are getting self-employment, health and medical facilities, population control, and tuition charge free primary education.

Though grown old, recharged day by day in efforts and inspiration, intrepid youthful man Fazle Hassan Abed have already been adorned with many national and international prizes in recognition of his great deeds. To mention amongst these prizes notable are Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership (1980), UNESCO Noma Literacy Prize (1985), Alan Shawn Feinstein World Hunger Award ( 1990), Maurice Pate by UNICEF (1992) .Very recently he received Honorable Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership (2007) inaugural Clinton Global Citizen Award (2007), David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award (2008) awards from United States.

BRAC managed fashion house Aarong, has heaved up its identities in outside world crossing boundaries of the home country. In a short span of time, BRAC Bank has established itself as a specialized Bank gaining confidence of the people and moving ahead fast. Amongst the private educational institutions BRAC University is now holding a position of high-status. Mr. Abed himself is an institution not only for the people of Bangladesh who are immersed in the darkness of frustration but also acceptable and adorable by the poverty stricken people of the world. For his glorious contributions Arthokatha Jury Board has nominated him as best NGO personality of the year 2005 and best personality of the year 2006.
